We remember the atrocious weather of last year‘s cautious festival return following a year of no festival because of Covid.

In 2022 we have just the opposite — a heatwave; the jazz is back, the ambience is back, and everything has been done to maximise everyone’s enjoyment of it.
There is a re-arranged free visitor venue — three-floors of the “Lake House”. EPFL folks are present there this year — in the library and in the cinema for presentations and showing of high quality recordings from the immense archive of shows from the Montreux Jazz Digital Project.
The Cinema has a multi-channel Meyer sound system installed. In addition to the front and side speakers, each of the orange dots in the ceiling is a loudspeaker channel as well. We attended a quite convincing presentation and demo in there by Meyer.

There has been a wide series of video and live presentations of retrospectives including John McLaughlin talking about his life, music career, and 27 performances at Montreux.

Montreux’s Mathieu Jaton (who took over as CEO after the passing of Claude Nobs) provided fascinating anecdotes and large screen video of the last decade of shows. This presentation was on the lower level “Memphis”, which was the Montreux Jazz Club in previous years. This is where we saw Chick Corea at Montreux for the last time in 2019 video. [We saw him one more time in Geneva early 2020.]

Paying concerts in the Stravinsky hall and Jazz Lab — all booked out.

Free concerts presented here in the Memphis room, also in Lisztomania, Ipanema, El Mundo, #Ibis music stage and the SuperBock stage replacing the “Music in the Park” concept of pre-pandemic years.

. . . the Montreux Riviera sun and sunsets are back!
