Regional (Suisse-Romande) pride took place this year in Sion – a Major social step forward for LGBTIQ population in Switzerland. The previous Sion Pride faced homophobic opposition from this heavily Catholic area. “And if a wind of equality would blow in the Valais” drove a clear message and our hope this time.
After that difficult 2001, and still with fears of homophobic opposition in 2015, this year’s pride was permitted, and went ahead without noticeable counter-manifestation. On the contrary, ‘Pride Sion 2015’ was a great success with an estimated 5000 participants and 3000 visitors.
Next year, the suisse romande pride is planned to take place in Fribourg / Freiburg which held its last Pride in 2013.
So, 2016 rendez-vous for a 3-day event Friday 24 – Sunday 26 June, parade Saturday.
